Comfortably 2-0 ahead with nine minutes to go on Saturday, the Black Dogs looked set for a place in the second round of the Anglian Combination Senior Knock-Out Cup.

But then it all went horribly wrong. An unfortunate own goal put Harling in with a chance, two minutes later they equalised with a deflected shot, and five minutes later Dom Mirner was controversially sent off in an incident with a defender, who was only shown a yellow card.

And when the game went into extra-time the home side won it with a well-taken goal at the start of the second period.

Without three key players — Shaun Whiteman, John Riches and Ash Canham — Bungay were comfortable for much of the game.

They went ahead after just seven minutes when Shaunt Flint and Mirner won the ball on the left and Flint struck a great 20-yard effort into the roof of the net.

When the home side enjoyed a good spell Josh Knights cleared an effort for a corner, another header was narrowly wide and Tom Wickham made a great save to thwart another effort.

But it was 2-0 in the 22nd minute when the keeper was drawn out of position and Mirner stooped to head in James Gill’s cross.

Flint had another shot turned away by the diving keeper, but Wickham also did well to thwart a home effort, and debutant Chris Anderson headed another chance away.

Wickham made a fine save at the start of the second half as the home side came out in determined fashion, and for Bungay Mirner had a chance when he was put clear, but the keeper robbed him as he tried to turn.

The dramatic turn-around came when Anderson’s attempted clearance found Wickham wrong-footed and it rolled into the corner of the net, before Ryan London equalised in the 83rd minute, his shot taking a deflection off a defender.

Mirner’s sending off gave Bungay a hill to climb, but they had chances before the end and in the first half of extra-time — as did Harling, who saw one effort come back off a post and another off the underside of the bar. But the winner came in the first minute of the second period of added time as Jack Flynn turned well and put a shot from the edge of the area low inside the post.
