TWO first-half goals saw Bungay, who tomorrow visit Attleborough, complete their third successive Anglian Combination Division One win at bottom-of-the-table Scole on Saturday.

The points took them up to second place in the table at this early stage of the season, but the performance did not please manager Richard Daniels and his assistant Lee Henwood.

After a bright start, which saw them take the lead inside 90 seconds, their play was often lacklustre and disjointed, and when Scole scored with two minutes left they found themselves hanging on for the final whistle.

Nevertheless, they must be satisfied with 10 points from their first five games at the higher level, and if they can win when not at their best it augurs well for the coming months.

The early goal came after the Black Dogs won a corner and Joe MacFarlane found Neil Renaut at the far post with the flag kick.

He laid it back for Danny Wilby to curl in a teasing cross which Luke Field touched over the keeper for Alan Kennedy to score from a yard out.

Scole retaliated with a header from a right wing cross which cleared the bar and then a flicked header from a corner ran inches wide of the far post.

Bungay won a free-kick on the edge of the area in the 16th minute but Paul Hunter's kick failed to curl, and Renaut drove a low effort wide when MacFarlane laid the ball on for him.

In the 22nd minute the Black Dogs won a penalty as MacFarlane was felled as he was about to shoot, but the keeper blocked Wilby's spot-kick and the two clashed going for the loose ball.

Bungay continued to stretch the home defence without being able to make the most of the openings, and when the second goal came in the 37th minute it was from another penalty for a foul on MacFarlane.

This time Lee Henwood blasted the spot kick into the roof of the net.

The second half saw the game deteriorate. Scole were much more in it. Henwood cleared one effort off the line following a corner and the home side netted following a free-kick, but it was ruled out for offside.

Substitute Ed Collins was thwarted by the keeper when he burst through and Tom Amis, who also came on as a substitute, drove a couple of powerful efforts over the bar.

But Scole were threatening a goal and it came with two minutes left when the ball was cleared from a corner only for Nyle Barker to rifle a fine shot into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

It gave Bungay an uncomfortable last few minutes which they could have avoided if they had made their better football tell earlier.

Bungay: J Bligh, M Harvey, C Hunting, L Henwood, T Daniels, D Wilby (M King), N Renaut, P Hunter, L Field, J McFarlane (E Collins), A Kennedy (T Amis).
