ON Easter Sunday the annual Easter tournament was held at Beccles Indoor Bowls Club. Twelve triples took part, initially split into three groups for the qualifying stages.

Group A was closely contested with John Catchpole's triple winning two and drawing one game to qualify as group winners from Graham Catchpole's team following a draw in the last match when they played against each other.

In Group B, Mark Cole's triple won all three matches to reach the semi-finals, while Group C saw three teams finish level on four points with shot difference deciding that Denis Francis' team headed the group. Peter Clarke's triple joined them in the semi-finals as the best runner-up by virtue of a single shot over Derek Thompson.

Both semi-finals turned out to be comfortable wins for John Catchpole over Peter Clarke and Mark Cole against Denis Francis.

In the final, the Catchpoles held a 2-1 lead after two ends, then on the third end Ian Catchpole fired the jack out of rink when one down. This proved decisive as on the replayed end the Catchpoles picked up a four to put them into the very strong position of 6-1 up. They ran out winners by 10-3.

Chairman Eric Edwards presented the prizes to winners Louise, John and Ian Catchpole, runners-up Nicky Marwood, Charlie Cook and Mark Cole and losing semi-finalists Phil Sarginson, Barbara Capon and Denis Francis and Rachel, Lauren and Peter Clarke.

He thanked Christine Cutts and all her helpers for the catering throughout the day.

On Saturday, at Ipswich IBC, Beccles will be represented in three finals at the Ladies'

county finals.

Georgina Marwood will be playing in the singles, Tracey Topple in the Champion of Champions singles and Margaret Moore, Cyril Moore and David Wood in the mixed triples.
