BECCLES secured the London Division 3 North-East title with two games to spare after a victory against Wests.

They now travel to Wisbech tomorrow for what promises to be a tough fixture but with the pressure off they will be able to enjoy their rugby and look to continue fine form.

After a nervous start Beccles got the win they needed against West Norfolk to become champions.

Giddins came in to the starting line-up to replace Ling with Pitts providing further front row cover on the bench.

Gedney started on the wing. Sale was playing his last game of the season before jetting off to Australia to play rugby.

Beccles started the game nervously and Wests had them on the back foot for the first ten minutes. When Beccles finally got themselves going they went ahead through a try.

After a good run by Geyser Wade received the ball in midfield and went through a gap. He then sidestepped the full-back to score under the posts, then converted.

Soon after Gedney charged down a kick ahead from his opposite number. He collected the loose ball and sprinted clear to score in the corner. Wade missed the difficult conversion but soon added a penalty to stretch the lead.

Beccles were in control now and started to play some better rugby. From a ruck inside the Beccles half Rob Wilson stole the ball and outpaced the defence to score under the posts.

Beccles put together the best move of the match to score their next try.

Good hands saw the ball go wide to Gedney. He then fed the ball inside to the supporting Geyser who went over for a try. Wade added the conversion and the half-time score was 29-0.

Beccles started the second half poorly. Paul Wilson was sent to the sin bin for collapsing a maul.

Wests fed the ball wide from the resulting penalty and the winger found space to score in the corner.

Beccles came back with another try. After a number of carries from the forwards the ball went wide and Murray went over for the try.

Wests came back and scored another try. They then had a player sent to the sin bin.

This was soon evened up with Hinsley also being sent to the sin bin. Beccles got the last score when Paul Wilson took a good catch in the line-out. The Beccles pack drove towards the line and Rix touched down as they crossed the line.

This gave a final score of 39-14. Corks popped and the celebrations began.
