AT Ipswich, in the ladies' county finals on Saturday, Beccles club players won two titles.

In the Champion of Champion Singles, Tracey Topple beat Isabel Morey from the host club 21-12 to become the third member of her family to win the competition, surely a unique achievement.

The Mixed Triples competition was being held for the first time and Margaret Moore, Cyril Moore and David Wood became the first winners, overcoming the Mid-Suffolk triple of Neil Frohawk, Mary Saunders and Alfie Chambers 20-10.

There was a near miss in the Ladies Four Wood Singles when Georgina Marwood put in a very good performance against Anne Hawkins from Mid-Suffolk, losing by only six shots.

This weekend will see the start of the Men's County semi-finals and finals at Sudbury which, because of a clash of dates with the national finals, will not all be concluded until April 20.

Beccles are represented in all competitions: in the U25 singles by Ben Harber and Ian Catchpole; in the singles by Graham Catchpole; while in the pairs Mark and David Todd play Cyril Moore and David Wood.

The Todd's are joined by David Wood in the triples and to complete the line up in the fours it will be Mark Todd, Cyril Moore, John Catchpole and David Wood.

This week will also see the Beccles club semi-finals start with games on Thursday and Friday evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday.
