Series A at Beccles ASC was completed in an easterly force five which gave great competitive racing on Saturday afternoon. Fifteen lined up for a reaching start against the ebbing tide and it was no surprise that Nigel Shipley in the fast Kestral was first to the bridge gybe mark.

The trees on the Norfolk bank caught a few out if you went too wide but not Blankley, How or Curtis who all enjoyed a good fast return up to a tight three, set close to the bank to help give a beat up to four.

After three laps and 30 minutes Shipley took the bell and second on corrected time to Glen and George Curtis in Norfolk Penelope Jane while Simon Strode with rookie crew Buster Aspinal did a fine job for third.

With the usual jostling for pole position Curtis timed it perfectly again, remaining unchallenged throughout to collect his second win and ultimately the RNLI Pennant silverware.

Close competition remained between the rest of Norfolk fleet. Richard and Caroline Baylis in Herewego held off Richard Lewis and Tim French in Dingbat for second despite getting worryingly close on the short beat between one and two.

James How in his topper Blue, with two more convincing wins, added the Poyser Cup to his silverware collection.
