THE annual charity darts tournament organised by Paul Eagle and friends celebrated its 10th anniversary recently.

This event, held at the Chaucer Club in Bungay, was very well supported and produced some very exciting matches in both the ladies' and men's competitions.

Eagle said: “Everything went very well. We have got it down to a tee how it runs.”

The event raises money for the Sandra Chapman Cancer Centre where he received treatment.

“We were so impressed with what they were running. We wanted to give something back for the community and for everyone else to use. It's a way of saying thank you,” said Eagle, adding that the tournament and other fundraising events had raised about £10,000 over the

10 years.

He lives in Halesworth and plays darts for the Chaucer Club in Bungay where the event was held.

Sue Thompson won the ladies' final, beating Nicky Doidge 4-1 in a riveting match.

This was followed by the men's final where Andy 'Goldfinger' Gilding triumphed 4-2 over worthy opponent Peter Birkett.

Other awards, on the night, went to the highest checkout in each competition - won by Laura Cooper with 96 and Gilding with 122.

During the interval there was a mini auction, the highlight of which was a signed shirt donated by World Champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor. This was bought with a bid of £120.

But the true winner on the night was the charity as the grand sum of £630 was raised for the Sandra Chapman Cancer Centre.

This was boosted by men's champion Gilding, who donated his £100 prize money back, making the final total £730.
