Almost 2,300 runners took part in the Norwich Half Marathon on November 23, with 10 members of Waveney Valley AC entered.
Given that the race limit of 3,120 was reached several weeks before the race, and almost 1,000 runners did not turn up on the day, it was encouraging that all of the WVAC runners entered made the start line, and in atrocious weather conditions, all completed the race.
Bill Kingaby finished 309th in a time of 1-37:46 and was prize winner for second in the 60-64 age category. David Mower was 443rd in an excellent personal best time of 1-42:06, knocking four and a half minutes off his previous best time.
Becky Langford finished 665th in 1-48:10, Joe Mayne 756th in 1-50:23 and Paul Harrod 822nd in 1-52:23. Beccles-based Duncan Carter was 885th in 1-52:48, Vladimir Laptikhovsky 927th in 1-53:23 and David Goosey recorded a personal best 1-55:28 in 1,016th. Louise Riches was 1,149th in 1-57:53 and Maxine Hunt 2,131st in 2-29:22.
On Sunday, junior and senior members will compete in race two of the Suffolk Winter League at the village of Sutton near Woodbridge.
Waveney Valley Athletic Club are still inviting runners to enter the 10-mile Turkey Trot road race to be held on Sunday, December 14, but the race limit of 300 is fast approaching as around 220 entries have been received so far.
The race starts at 11am near Beccles Sports Centre on Ringsfield Road and the course will take the runners through the beautiful villages of Ilketshall St Andrew and Ringsfield before finishing back near the Sports Centre.
In addition to all of the prizes advertised on Waveney Valley AC’s website, this year a new prize will be offered by Wine Vaults of Beccles for the first runner in fancy dress to finish. All finishers will again receive a Christmas pudding.
Entry fees are £12 UKA club member and £14 unaffiliated. Entries on the day, if the race limit has not been reached beforehand, will be £2 extra. Entry is available via www.runbritain.com or by downloading an entry form from the club website and posting to Brian Boardley, 191 St Peters Street, Lowestoft NR32 1HS. Closing date for postal entries is Monday, December 8.
