A score of 59 is an uncommon event in golf but it was almost achieved by Del Collyer at Beccles Golf Club on Saturday when the coveted Ken Allen Cup was contested.

Had he not hit a shot out of bounds during his round costing him at least two shots, his score of 80-19-61 would have been sub-60.

His final score, however, was still five shots better than runner-up Eddie Bowles (79-13-66) to give him the much sought after Ken Allen Cup. Mike Garrood was third with 88-21-67. This excellent score by Del resulted in a three-shot reduction in his handicap.

Club captain Willie White thanked Sue for the after- match refreshments before family member Craig Gill presented the trophy.

On Thursday June 4, the club's Parks team (see picture on back page) travelled to St Clements Golf Club Ipswich for their second round match and although performing well away from home on a tight course, failed to progress to the third round by a deficit of 15 holes.

On Sunday, the stableford competition competitors included two players trying to obtain their club handicaps.

Playing with the club captain and ladies' captain, Nigel Jeffs and Ben Debenham both gained their handicaps of 28 and 26 respectively.

The competition was won by Ray Walding with 40 points beating his brother Ron into second place on 36. Willie White was third on 35 points.

Tomorrow, the Elsie Pulford Cup will tee off at 8am.
