TWO young bowlers from the Beccles Indoor Bowls Club are finishing their season off in style.Louise Catchpole, 19, and Kirsty Clarke, 16, have won through to the last 16 in the English Ladies' National Unbadged Pairs Championships to be played at Nottingham in April, and will almost certainly be the youngest pair at the finals.

TWO young bowlers from the Beccles Indoor Bowls Club are finishing their season off in style.

Louise Catchpole, 19, and Kirsty Clarke, 16, have won through to the last 16 in the English Ladies' National Unbadged Pairs Championships to be played at Nottingham in April, and will almost certainly be the youngest pair at the finals.

This is the first season that Clarke and Catchpole have teamed up together and their results in the earlier rounds of this competition have shown that they have potential to become contenders for the title.

Their appearance at the national finals will cap off a truly memorable season for both players. Each achieved the top honour of being selected to play for England. Clarke was selected for the U18 mixed team and Catchpole was selected for the ladies' U25 team, the first two Beccles players to represent their country and the first two ladies within Suffolk.

Playing against the other three home nations both players put in good performances and will be hoping for recalls next seasons.

Two weeks ago both lifted county titles in the Suffolk Ladies Championships, Clarke taking the ladies' singles title and Catchpole winning the champion of champions title.

Catchpole and Clarke have each experienced the atmosphere of a national championships, both having played at this stage in the ladies' U25 singles.

There will be a large following of support from the Beccles Club to see these two young Suffolk players take on the best in England at a senior level.

Meanwhile, Beccles lost in the final of the Men's County League to Sudbury on Saturday at Mid Suffolk by 85-75. Although they were behind early on, Beccles recovered to take the lead at the half way point but fell behind in the third quarter of the game and were never able to pull back the deficit.

Beccles will have a quick opportunity to gain revenge this Sunday when Beccles A play Sudbury A in the final of the Mixed County League at Mid Suffolk.

Beccles A won their last game in the East Area on Sunday beating Ipswich B by 87-69 for 6.5 points.
