Entries are flooding in already from runners far and near for this year’s Bungay Black Dog Marathon on April 10.

The event, first held in 1982 and still as popular as ever, will again be run from the Sports Association playing fields at the Malting’s Meadow, Ditchingham.

Many runners train through the winter for a spring Marathon and like to get their entries in early, particularly if they have been rejected in the London Marathon ballot.

Having raised over 10,000 in each of the last two years for the NSPCC, the Bungay Black Dog Running Club, which organises the event, is already working with the local branch of the NSPCC to ensure this year’s marathon is another success.

The race itself comprises two laps around the picturesque Waveney Valley through Suffolk from Bungay to Beccles and back again through Norfolk. For those not wishing to run quite as far there is the option of the half-marathon, as well as the ever-popular fun run around the sports field, and there will be a full range of facilities provided for spectators.

Last year the event saw nearly 1000 entries for all three races and the organisers are hoping that can be reached again this time

In addition to the Bungay Marathon, the club is also holding the Roger Wing Memorial 10k and Fun Run on Good Friday, April 22, at Broome Village Hall, with proceeds from the event being donated this year to All Hallows’ Healthcare Trust at Ditchingham.

This is an event aiming to encourage all abilities whether those seeking a personal best or wanting to complete the course sponsored for the charity. For those that want to get into the spirit of the day but don’t feel they can run 10km there is the option of the one mile off-road fun run, which is open to youngsters and adults of all ages.

Entry fee for the 10km run is 6 or 8 for unattached runners. The Fun Run will cost 2 to enter. Competitors in both events can be assured that they will be well supported by the friendly Bungay Black Dog Running Club.
