HALES A won Greeny's six-a-side competition on Sunday in a sensational finish - fitting of the day - when Chris Ayre smashed a huge six off the last ball to see his side home.

In the group stages, a strong Kirkley side narrowly missed out after beating the eventual winners in their first match. Greeny's team beat Kirkley by a run but then lost to Hales A, leaving some lengthy calculations to see Kirkley eliminated.
In the other group, Hales won both games, with the Porters narrowly missing out to Kirkley A.
In the semi-finals Greeny's team beat Hales and the A team beat Kirkley A to give an unexpected final line-up.

In reply, only six came from the first over but Aaron Beaumont, who remained not out, smashed 24 from Simon Key's over to get Hales A back on track.

It came down to five needed from two balls. Chris Ayre turned down the single, leaving a six needed for victory, which he delivered.
John Green presented Greeny's trophy to the winning team and with Sara's excellent raffle and match fees a total on around �230 was raised for the Royal Marsden Hospital Fund.
A fun day was a fitting tribute to Matt's memory, with the teams congratulated for the way they played.
Paul and Jill Lovick and Jean Collins provided an excellent barbecue, with groundsmen Minty and Matt producing a quality strip.
