RONAN Hirst secured his first MSA (Motorsports Association) meeting win on Sunday in an action-packed day at Ellough Park Raceway.

The 10-year-old lad from Broome had to fight all the way to win the final of the Honda Cadet Class for eight to 13-year-olds.

The sun was beating down as the seven young racers lined up for the heats and final with Ronan Hirst, Dino Lee and Alex Day racing nose to tail all day for the first three places.

Behind them a close battle was going on between Beccles racer Mark Phelps, Harrison Huggan, James Hillery and Stephanie Sore (racing for the first time at the Beccles track).

Harrison secured fourth place and the Novice Trophy but only by a mere seven hundredths of a second ahead of Mark who tussled with him all the way to the line.

Harrison earlier found himself in the lead after a 'coming together' of the leaders at the chicane. This racing incident was later to cost the unlucky Dino Lee a two place penalty for a technical infringement.

Stephanie put in a great performance in her first Beccles race and James Hillery who had recorded quick laps all day suffered an early retirement in the final as he lost a chain on the first lap.

The final saw more fantastic driving in up front from Dino, Alex and Ronan providing nerve-jangling overtaking moves and constant changing of positions.

There was only hundreds of a second between them but Ronan won the spoils with Alex taking the runner-up spot and Dino in third.

Ronan's continued success is proving great preparation for next year's British Championship.

He is still seeking a sponsor and any interested local business should contact his dad on 07789 965904.
