FLIXTON Short Mat Bowls Club were recently declared the winners of the Waveney Short Mat Bowls League, with Carlton Colville taking runners-up place.
Their success this year in the league was tinged with a little sadness, as it has now been decided that the club is to disband before the new season begins. With this in mind, members and their partners got together for a celebratory meal. All the remaining members are joining other local short mat bowls clubs.
A club spokesman said: “If anyone is considering setting up short mat bowls in a hall, Flixton have all the equipment for sale, everything you need to start. It would be nice if it could be used to set up a new club.”
If you are interested please contact captain David Baker on 01986 782377.
Flixton first started in 1991, but have never won the league before, although they have been runners-up. They have won various competitions including the Waveney Knock-Out Cup in past years, and have been involved in many tournaments.
Some of their members have gone on to represent Suffolk and Norfolk at county level.
