Beccles travelled to Stow on Saturday in a must-win game to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive.

They won the toss, decided to bowl first on a good wicket but Stow made the most of their early luck, with dropped catches and wickets on no balls, to post a score of 223, with opening batsman Denny scoring 52 and Albertt 36.

Landymore was 76 not out, with David George the pick of the Beccles bowlers, taking three wickets. Opening bowlers Vihm and Turrell picked up one each as Stow made 223-5.

The Beccles chase started badly, with opener Richard Turrell out for a duck. They continued to lose wickets steadily with Patnell top-scoring with 43, assisted by Richard Porter with 42 and Daniel Vihm (21), plus some late order hitting from David Turrell (18).

Blessing Mahwire claimed 3-42 and and Ring 3-39 as Beccles were dismissed for 152 to stay rooted to the bottom of Alliance Division One.

Beccles B had another important win on an extremely hot day against Ketteringham Hall A, who were second in the league when they came to Ringsfield.

Beccles won the toss and put Ketteringham into bat in the stifling heat. But in the field and with the ball, the weather didn't dent Beccles' confidence at all.

This was proved in their second over and D Cable's first when he took the first wicket of the day.

The second came in the young bowlers' next over when he clean bowled S Hitcham.

Although Cable bowled extremely well on his return, the pick of the bowlers that day was M Smith, taking four wickets from his allotted 12 overs for only 15 runs.

Behind the stumps J Cockings probably had the best game of his life, consistently solid and diving when needed, determined not to give away any silly runs.

Also, a mention for A Navrady, who dived spectacularly at slip to catch an edge from G Henderson off Cable's bowling.

Ketteringham Hall were all out for 65 due to the splendid effort from every single player in the Beccles side who didn't let the heat affect them and put in 100 per cent.

After tea, Beccles took to the crease and did exactly what was required of them. They batted slowly and steadily.

The openers stayed there for nearly 20 overs before M Smith was bowled by Henderson.

But Ben Patrick, the other opener, top scored with 25 not out, in an excellent display of patience. Beccles lost only four wickets on their way to a brilliant win.

The only slight stain on the day was the unfortunate behaviour a couple of Ketteringham players who let their side down, however even this failed to dent the enjoyment of the young Beccles players who showed impressive maturity beyond their years.
