HALES entertained Stowe in Norfolk Alliance Division One and lost by one wicket on an eventful day.

Hales captain Steve Rowe again lost the toss and was asked to bat first, the choice he would have made.

Hales lost regular wickets throughout their innings.

Although they could not legislate for the five controversial lbw decisions, they contributed to their own downfall with several shocking batting displays.

Rob Andersen made a plucky 25 before being adjudged lbw.

The batting highlight of the day was from Chris Hlengani who made 52 not out. Had there been more sensible batting with at least one other able to support Hlengani, Hales would have posted a more meaningful total to defend.

They made a very modest 146 all out.

The Stowe innings went in very similar fashion with the Hales bowling attack keeping on top. There were no scores of note, but more of them contributed to their total score.

The best bowler for Hales was Chris Hlengani who finished with a well-deserved four wickets. Stowe put up a dogged resistance for their last wicket with an undefeated partnership of 26 to see them home on 147-9.

The Hales supporters' man of the match goes to Chris Hlengani for his all-round display.

Paceman Adam Spelman and swing bowler Mark Holsworth shared eight wickets as Hales were dismissed for 82 in 22 overs, Jack Cook top scoring with 24 with Tom Watts (16), Chris Ayre (12) and Jamie Weston (12 not out) the other double-figure contributors.

Winterton were steered to a comfortable victory in the 18th over by experienced opener Simon Tooley (25no) assisted by Shaun Drake (18).
