HALES entertained Beccles Town in an eagerly-anticipated Alliance Division Two clash - and gained an important win.

Beccles won the toss and elected to bowl and tried to put Hales under some early pressure which they certainly did.

A combination of some loose shots and some very fine bowling from Turrell, Vihm and Etteridge left Hales reeling at 52-7 after 19 overs.

The top order collapsed and it took a superb rearguard action from Rowe (22), Lovick (20) and G Squire (28 not out) to take Hales to a defendable total of 123 all out after just 33 overs.

In reply, Beccles never really got the innings going against some spirited bowling and fielding from the youthful Hales team.

Neil Pearce (3-37) and Lovick (4-21) bowled superbly in marathon spells as Beccles crumbled at the finish line.

Beccles were allocated 59 overs to chase down the very small 123 run target but were cleaned out in the 46th over for just 115.

The Hales side just refused to be beaten and a never-say-die attitude really paid of as each and every Hales player gave it everything in the field and with the ball.

Happy Buddah Chinese Takeaway man-of-the-match award goes to all rounder Matthew Lovick for a superb display with both the bat and the ball.

Next week Hales welcome the return of Dan and Robin Andersen from their travels as they field a full-strength side again against Garboldisham.
