HALESWORTH Angel Bowls Club concluded another very successful season at the weekend when the finals of the club competitions were held in favourable weather.

The organisation of the various events were again in the capable hands of David Moreton and the junior organiser Roger Denny.

During the season the club has won the Lowestoft section of the Suffolk Bowls England Triples League, and other county successes included the much-coveted Quinton Bowl when they beat Rookery Bowls Club from Stowmarket in the final at Roundwood's neutral green in Ipswich.

Halesworth's team of 16 players had an unfamiliar look about it with several of the top 12 missing. The club's strength in depth, however, was emphasised and included U25 players who had come through the club's youth training scheme.

Ian Catchpole, a regular first team player, was on duty with England's U25 squad in Ireland and both he and Ollie Whyte have made the mark at county level this year.

In the county's Millennium Shield competition Halesworth were narrowly beaten by Ipswich Bowls Club.

In the finals at Halesworth Daniel Bishop, another of the youth training scheme whose great-grandfather appears on a 1924 picture in the pavilion of the clubs members then, was successful in two events.
