The Beccles Amateur Sailing Club annual down river race to Burgh St Peter attracted seven and all got away in early sunshine from a running start on the ebbing tide.

A south westerly force three gusting four made for a relatively quick passage through the trees and after the swing bridge Jonathan Blankley and Rory Kelsey in the Pegasus High Flyer opened up a massive lead to finish in one hour and 34 minutes and collect the Waveney Salver.

The rest crossed the line in under two hours and made for lunch.

A split start had the dinghies away first for the return leg on the now flooding tide but after 30 minutes the rain started and the wind had all but disappeared.

Close racing still persisted and after over two hours Richard and Caroline Baylis in Norfolk Herewego took the bell and the silverware at the swing bridge just four seconds ahead of Glen Curtis and Mel Vout in Penelope Jane.
