Halesworth swimmer Neil Howell competed in the Guernsey International Masters meet last week.

This was the sixth occasion he has attended the event.

Event organiser John Eyre stated prior to the meet that there was a fear that due to global financial worries entries would be reduced from previous years.

However, 155 swimmers from 45 clubs travelled to the Channel Islands.

Competitors came from Guernsey, France, Spain, Switzerland and from all parts of the United Kingdom.

Eyre, in a television interview, said that although many of the competitors were of advancing years, none had lost the will to win. Ages ranged from 18 to 84 years.

Howell swam five events during the three-day meet at the magnificent Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.

He secured a hat trick of victories by winning the 200m, 100m and 50m breaststroke events and took bronze in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. He was the sole representative of the East Anglian Swallow Tails Club.
