Bungay extended their winning streak to six games in Norfolk Alliance Division Three with a comfortable win over Fakenham A at their picturesque Highfield Lawn ground.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Bungay skipper Chris Fuller again opted to start with the off-spin of Nick Lo from one end.

Both the Fakenham openers looked assured but tight bowling and good ground fielding kept a lid on the scoring rate until Fuller broke the deadlock when he cleaned bowled his opposite number Harrison Futter for 20.

Lo was brought out of the attack after a seven over spell that went for just 17 runs to be replaced by his fellow off spinner Dave Fuller who bowled a superb nine over spell (9-0-21-1) which allowed all the bowlers from the other end to attack and look for wickets.

Jack Masters continued his impressive form with the ball but it was left to the Mattocks brothers to rip through the lower-middle order, Teddy in particular breaking a growing partnership between the two impressive Fakenham youngsters, Sam Blackiston and Oscar Campbell.

Fakenham fought until the end of their innings and denied Bungay the last bowling bonus point but could only make their way to 185-8 from their allotted 45 overs.

At tea Bungay thought that the total was perhaps 30 or 40 below par on a good wicket and a fast outfield and so it proved.

Openers Will Lewis and Dave Fuller were both watchful to begin the innings, with Fuller in particular punishing the odd bad ball.

As they got in they both became more expansive and pushed the scoreboard along to 120-0 before Fuller fell, caught behind to Blackiston.

It was a fantastic partnership that nearly broke the back of the run chase and despite losing number three Lo for a duck the skipper joined Lewis to see the team home with the best part of five overs to spare.

Lewis finished on 86 not out to continue his prolific season with the bat.

The win and 23-point haul for Bungay saw them maintain their third position in Division Three, just 13 points behind second placed Martham and well placed to mount a promotion challenge in the second half of the season.

On Saturday Bungay host league leaders Great Melton in a mouth-watering at the Maltings (1pm start).
