A packed crowd at Hobart High School pool buzzed on Saturday when 77 Loddon White Dolphin swimmers took part in the club's junior gala. Club President and Chief Coach Pam Stone and swim teacher, Stacey Taylor, congratulated the swimmers, many swimming in their first gala, on the high standard of performance and thanked parents for their loyal support and commitment.

6 Year Olds

Charlotte Robertson took freestyle first with Grace Madsen, Esme Walton and Posy Mead earning second, third and fourth. Charlotte went on to complete a strong backstroke win while Grace Madsen, Posy Mead and Abbie Mallett battled for second, third and fourth places.

Alex Robertson gained a new record with a fast first in boys' freestyle; James Edge was second, Joseph Creegan third and Billy Littlewood fourth. Alex later claimed a second record in backstroke; James Edge was second, Sam Todd secured third and Oliver Jinkerson fourth places.

Excellent first gala performance from Katherine Haynes, Callum Vincent, James Jenkins, and Elan Newson

7 Year Olds

A close front crawl final saw Georgina Matthews take first, Georgina Cook second, Abigail Humphries third and Emily Siggins fourth place. Abigail and Georgina M. battled for first and second place backstroke while Carmel Pooley and Lily Porter fought for close third and fourth places.

In an exciting front crawl Mitchell Boothby touched just ahead of the unlucky Thomas Summerfield; Louis Albrow third, Ben Vautier fourth. Thomas won backstroke with Daniel Clark second, Louis Albrow third and Jake Caston fourth. Good swimming times from Grace Hunt, Estella Smith, Bethany Allen, Jemima Napier, Eleanor Storey, Amy Framingham, Leoni Delf-Havens, Mitchell Boothby, Molly Cushing, Emma Hunter, Laura Beevor, and Marcus Battisson.

Trophy awards: Most Improved Boy - Mitchell Boothby; Most Improved Girl - Grace Hunt; Works Extremely Hard - Thomas Summerfield and Emily Siggins.

8 Year Olds

Sophie Thurtell smashed front crawl and breaststroke records taking firsts in both with Lauren Pittaccio, Chloe Rowswell and Sophie Todd securing second, third and fourth place in front crawl and Tara Jenkins and Katherine English second and third places in breaststroke.

A strong backstroke performance from Lauren guaranteed a first place and a new record with Katherine English and Fenella Jenkins tussling for second and third places and Hannah Heinrich fourth. Tara Jenkins won butterfly, Hannah Keeley took second.

Daniel Siggins and Luke Page wrestled for backstroke first and second places respectively with Brandon Yallop taking third and Alexander Husband fourth. Daniel took an early front crawl lead for first place with Luke Page second, Alexander Husband third and Luke Gillespie fourth. Callum Anstell won breaststroke.

A new butterfly record was set by Brandon Yallop's win. Determined swimming from Charlotte Haynes, Maisie Ford, Keats Staines, Daniel Mallett, Toby Godfrey, Ned Mead, George Browne, Liam Harris, Zak Herwin, Jonny Reynolds, and Isobel Napier.

Trophy awards: 'Stones' for Positive Attitude - Charlotte Haynes; 'Michael Hogarth' Isobel Napier; Tenacity & Determination - Fenella Jenkins; Works Extremely Hard - Sophie Todd and Brandon Yallop.

9 Year Olds

Alice Whitmore set a new record in the front crawl with Phoebe Chick securing second, Rachael Folkard third and Siouxsie Littlewodd fourth. Alice also won breaststroke, Elise Plume took second. Well practised backstroke gave Phoebe Chick a first place with Siouxsie Littlewood second, Rachael Folkard third and Jessica Stratton fourth.

Yasmin Briddon gained first in butterfly.

Rory Cook secured first in front crawl. Good performances from Jessica Stratton and Phillipa English.

Trophy awards: Swimmer of the Year - Phoebe Chick.
