BUNGAY Town have no first team game this week, so a chance to reflect on the season so far.

In their first season back in senior football, Bungay currently sit in second place in the table, exceeding even the most optimistic pre-season expectations.

Following some shrewd summer signings by then manager Richard Daniels, the side has gelled really well, and it is especially pleasing that, following Daniels' unexpected departure, the momentum has been maintained under Lee Henwood, with the side currently on a four-match winning run.

The defence has been solid, with Craig Hunting and Thomas Daniels always reliable, and Sean Payne has slotted in really well since his return to the club. It is a measure of the team's solidity that Henwood has felt able to leave himself on the bench in the last few games.

Behind the defence Jimmy Bligh has been in exceptional form in goal - form which has seen him also turn out for Ridgeons Premier side Leiston in midweek games.

Unfortunately he was injured in a recent game for Leiston - hopefully he won't be out for long. In midfield, Paul Hunter and Neil Renaut have formed an excellent partnership - Renaut in particular looking an excellent signing.

Up front Rory French has netted six times in as many games since his signing, and he has given the side a different dimension. Perhaps the only slight concerns are the lack of goals (French is top scorer with six) and also the indifferent disciplinary record - Daniels, Payne and Bullen are all about to start suspensions.

This is a very tight division, with only two points between second and sixth, but everyone at the club is optimistic that the side can continue to challenge for a top two place and that elusive Premier Division place.

Bungay Reserves did play last week, and moved back to the top of Division Five with an excellent 6-2 win away to Mundford Reserves.

The prolific Ainsley Baynes scored four times, with Matt King and Gregor Gibson the other scorers. It was also a good weekend for the four Sunday sides, who all won: the Sunday first team beat Occold 5-1 (scorers: Kevin Talbot, Pete Fuller, Ash Ling, James Youngman (2)).

The Sunday Reserves won 3-1 at Fressingfield, the Veterans maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-2 home win against Acle Rangers (Mick Money, Kevin Goldsmith and an own goal), and the Women won 4-3 away to UEA (Annie Piper (3), Imo Williams).
