Lowe hits hat-trick as the Black Dogs return to their winning ways

A hat-trick from top scorer Aiden Lowe paved the way for a comprehensive 5-0 win for the Black Dogs on Saturday at home to Holt United.
It helped to banish memories of the previous week’s defeat at rivals and neighbours Beccles and the three Anglian Combination Division One points keep them well in the hunt for promotion to the Premier Division.
Bungay made a good start to the contest and John Riches tested the keeper early on.
Lowe, particularly, looked determined to get on the scoresheet and after the visiting keeper had dealt capably with two 35-yard free kicks and the striker had clipped the bar with a curling effort, he put his side ahead in the 29th minute.
He intercepted a pass and took it on to round the keeper and score. The second came in the 40th minute as Lowe and Luke Spear combined to play in Dom Mirner. He beat the keeper comfortably from 15 yards for his ninth goal of the season.
For a spell in the second half Holt made a game of it and Beccles goalkeeper Rob Howes made a good save at his near post.
But in the 68th minute Shaun Whiteman got to the line and his pull-back found Lowe, who turned it neatly past the keeper.
In was 4-0 a minute later as Morgan Jones played the ball into the penalty area and substitute Brennan Solomon side-stepped two tackles to score from close range. Holt went close when a long cross eluded Howes but substitute Mark Clay was on hand to clear.
When Nathan Wesby-Burrows came on for Spear in the final 15 minutes he became the 950th player to pull on a Bungay first team shirt in the club’s 92-year history, and he put two efforts narrowly off target as Bungay continued to dominate. They completed the nap hand in the 88th minute as Josh Knights found Lowe with a superb chipped pass and he coolly completed his hat-trick, to take his season’s tally to 13.
The only thing to mar a good day for the Black Dogs was an eye injury to Nathan Moore which required hospital treatment.
Team: Howes, Daniels, Hunting, Whiteman, Jones, Mirner (Clay), J Riches, Moore (Solomon), Spear (Wesby-Burrows), Lowe, Knights.
Tomorrow Bungay visit Attleborough for a league game at 2.30pm.
