Lowestoft Town FC sealed their place in the Turners Hyundai Suffolk Premier Cup Final following an excellent 2-0 victory over Bury Town FC.

A 20th minute header from Josh Curry and a fine 25-yard free kick from Louis McIntosh eight minutes later was enough to secure victory for the Trawlerboys, who will now prepare for their 29th Suffolk Premier Cup Final.

And for Lowestoft Town manager Jamie Godbold, a “cracking” cup final against Needham Market awaits.

Tuesday night’s win at the Goldstar Ground, home of Felixstowe & Walton United FC, also saw Blues keeper Luis Tibbles make a second successive penalty save in the past week, after he superbly palmed Bury striker Cemal Ramadan’s spot kick away just two minutes after Lowestoft had doubled their lead through McIntosh.

Lowestoft – the 13-time cup winners – will face Needham Market, who defeated Stowmarket Town 4-1 at AFC Sudbury in Tuesday’s other delayed 2019-20 semi final, with a date and venue for the final still to be arranged.

Admitting he was “delighted” with the victory, Godbold told the Suffolk FA website: “It was a perfect end to pre-season going into our league opener on Saturday.

“It was competitive game against a good side and we are obviously delighted to be in the final.

“It should be a cracking final – Needham are a really good side as are we and it should be a good game.

“I thought we were comfortable for the majority of the second half.

“We scored from two set pieces – corners are what probably most teams are working on throughout pre-season, so it was good to score the opener from that – and then a bit quality from the free kick from Louie Mac, who is capable of doing that.

“The second half was either about us killing them off – I think we had chances in the first-half to come in at 3-0 – so either kill it off or don’t let them score and gather any momentum in the game.

“The second half was quite a dull affair with us just managing the game and I think we did that effectively.”
