Luke Allen was the winner of Waveney Valley AC's Turkey Trot 10-mile road race on Sunday.

Running for his first-claim club City of Norwich, Luke (a second-claim member of Waveney) was at the fore from the start and finished well ahead of the rest in clocking a personal best time of 54:31. Lowestoft Road Runners' Carl Prewer claimed second spot with 55:17. Third place went to promising Wesley Benton (Sudbury) who crossed the line in 55:43.

Stowmarket Strider's Tamara Jordan had a successful return to the event in beating her own course record which she set the previous year. She just narrowly failed to duck under the one-hour barrier in clocking 1-00:10 which was just under two minutes faster than her previous record.

Jenna Roberts, of Ipswich Jaffa, was the second lady home in crossing the line in eighth place overall with 1:01:42. Third-placed lady was Norwich Road Runner's Tracey Curl who recorded 1:07:00 she also collected the first Vet 45 plus prize.

In the past the event has attracted a good field but this year the entry was well down with just over 100 entrants and 90 finishers, disappointing as conditions were ideal.

Despite the low turnout it was still a very good event and some very creditable times were recorded over the tough undulating rural course which started at Beccles Sports Centre and took runners out through the villages.

Waveney's Richard Moore, who finished in fourth place overall, took the honours in the V40 plus age group with 59:33, hot on his heels was Chris Starmer of Stowmarket Striders who also ducked under the hour with 59:46 was the first V45 plus.

Prizes were awarded in five-year age groups for the veteran runners; V50 plus Rob Clayton, Felixstowe RR (1-11:42). V55 plus Stephen Dady, (1-08:12). V60 plus John Hills, Great Yarmouth RR (1-13:37). V65 plus Geoff Hayward, North Norfolk Beach Runners (1-15:01).

The ladies' veteran prizes went to V40-plus Hayley Suttle, Stowmarket Striders (1-16:28). V45-plus Tracey Curl, Norwich RR (1-00:07). V50-plus Carol Maycock, Bungay Black Dog (1-26:12). V55-plus Pauline Norman, Lowestoft RR (1-16:26). V65-plus Carole Spong, Great Yarmouth RR (1-23:24).

The men's team prize went to Lowestoft Road Runners team of Carl Prewer, Kevin Sharman and Shaun Lark. Stowmarket Strider's Tamara Jordan, Hayley Suttle and Penny Waggot were the winning ladies' team.

As well as the numerous Christmas vouchers as prizes all competitors received Christmas puddings. Special mention must also go to Norwich firm Britvic who supplied the bottles of water for the runners at the finish.

Thanks must go to Mike Sharman and Peter Wicks for setting up the course, also all the marshals, officials, and the numerous other helpers.
