This M&A Partners Division One hockey game saw plenty of action and a good all-round team display.

Debbie Mann put Beccles in front from a penalty corner and then shortly afterwards Mann's shot right on the edge of the D and travelling on target, was deflected home by a Yarmouth stick.

Beccles continued to play some very good team hockey and certainly had more of the play in the first half over their less experienced opposition.

There was plenty of calling for the ball and the whole team gelled well together.

Aimee Tilly stepped in at left defender and was a great asset. Young Ella Crouch had an excellent game at right back reading the game well and showing great maturity.

Both teams created scoring opportunities but it was Beccles who dominated. Despite numerous attacking moves, usually involving the skill of Jodie Smith and Ali Foreman, Beccles were unable to capitalise on their chances as the Yarmouth defence stood strong.

Within minute of the second half, Yarmouth had pulled one back following a penalty corner.

This goal inspired Yarmouth even more and the Beccles midfielders and defenders, especially Heather Brand and captain Max Gibbs, stood resolute and halted many attacks.

With the Beccles midfielders dominating the play, it enabled the forwards to create chances.

There were occasions when Yarmouth also came close to scoring but the ball either went wide or the defence dealt with it.

Then Karen Knight, who had another magnificent game, picked up an attempted clearance just outside the D and slipped the ball to Annette Freeman to hammer in.

This week Beccles have a friendly game at Hobart, 3pm start.
