A month after competing in the Barnet distance meet, Halesworth swimmer Neil Howell returned to the same venue to compete in the Barnet sprint meet held at the Copthall Pools complex in north-west London.

The meeting attracted a large entry from clubs all over the United Kingdom.

All races were of 100m and 50m. The veteran swimmer won gold medals in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke events and silvers in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle races.

Howell was one of two competitors from the Norwich-based East Anglian Swallow Tails club. The other was Debbie Matless, a former Halesworth resident and a pupil of Neil when he was teaching in Halesworth.

Debbie continues to show remarkable consistency in masters swimming when she won silver medals in three events - the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 50m butterfly.
