Tomorrow Bungay, who went nap at the weekend against Stalham, visit Corton in the first round of the League Cup (2pm).

Stalham Town 2, Bungay Town 5

MILES Clarke stamped his mark on this game as Bungay comfortably beat an under-strength Stalham side in Division One of the Anglian Combination on Saturday.

He scored twice and laid on two others as the Black Dogs won even more comfortably than the score suggests - the final tally could easily have been seven or eight as they dominated for most of the game to record their second win of the season.

Last season this fixture ended goalless and for much of the first half it looked as if it could go the same way.

Bungay had a good opportunity in the third minute as they won a free-kick on the edge of the six-yard box when the keeper handled a back pass, but Paul Hunter's effort was beaten out by the defence massed on the goal line.

Later Joe McFarlane got in a good shot on the turn that the keeper could not hold but a defender cleared, and from a corner Matt King had a shot cleared off the line with the keeper beaten.

Shaun Payne cut out the danger when Stalham did get clear, but Bungay were well on top and Dan Lowe netted with a lob, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside. Another good move saw Clarke's effort deflected for a corner.

Finally, four minutes from the interval, the Black Dogs took a deserved lead as Hunter crossed low into the six-yard box and Clarke scored at the third attempt after having two shots blocked.

Neil Renaut broke clear shortly after but his attempted chip over the keeper cleared the bar.

Bungay started the second half in the same way and Hunter should have done better with a free header from Lowe's cross - the effort landed in the roof of the net. Then Clarke put McFarlane clear, but with plenty of time he drilled his effort wide of the far post.

The second goal camein the 65th minute as a move developed down the left and Clarke's cross was turned in by Renaut.

Four minutes later hesitancy in the Bungay defence brought a penalty for Stalham as a forward was pushed and Dave Docherty drilled home the spot-kick to give the home side hope.

But the Black Dogs soon regained their two-goal lead when Clarke was bundled over on the edge of the box, and he got up to drill the free-kick low into the corner of the net.

Lowe collided with a post as he attempted to head in King's cross but he recovered quickly, But soon after Mcfarlane collided with a defender as he delivered a shot from a good position, and received lengthy treatment for concussion before being carried off. He later went to hospital for a precautionary check.

Billy Bligh replaced him and with four minutes left Payne made it 4-1 with a straight forward far-post header from Clarke's corner.

Two minutes later Stalham won a free-kick 20 yards out and Robert Logn could only block a fierce effort, allowing Mick Meale to head in from close range.

The Black Dogs completed a satisfactory afternoon deep into injury time as Renaut set up Bligh, who finished coolly from eight yards.
