A hat-trick from Dom Mirner paved the way to a clear-cut win for the Black Dogs as they kept their promotion bid on track on Saturday with a thumping victory at struggling Dersingham Rovers.

It was his second three-goal haul of the season and took his tally to 11 for the campaign.

It was not Bungay’s best performance of the season but they did enough against the Anglian Combination Division One strugglers to win comfortably and boos ttheir goal difference.

Both sides had off-target efforts in the first few minutes of the game and it was the home side who went closest, in the 22nd minute, as a shot from the right angle of the area hit the top of the bar.

But Bungay generally had the better of things, though stout defending meant they had to wait until the 35th minute before they took the lead.

Aiden Lowe played the ball into the near post where Mirner turned to bet the keeper from close range. Soon after Mirner set up a chance for Josh Knights who turned the effort narrowly wide.

Right on half time the Black Dogs made it 2-0 as Lowe again won the ball well in the area and found Mirner, who again finished well.

Mirner completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute as a good build-up down the right saw Knights set up a simple chance for him to slot past the keeper.

Soon after Knights himself should have got on the scoresheet, but with only the home goalkeeper to beat, he again put his effort narrowly wide.

John Riches also had a great chance but the keeper blocked his shot.

However, with 12 minutes to go, Mirner won a penalty as he was tripped surging into the area and Shaun Whiteman despatched the spot kick in his usual emphatic style.

With five minutes left, Danny Wilby, on as substitute for a now rare appearance, completed the nap hand, scoring at the second attempt as the keeper save his first effort.

However, Bungay’s clean sheet was ruined a minute later as Todd Coughlan got a consolation for Rovers.

Team: Howes, Olley, Hunting, Whiteman, M Jones, Mirner, J Riches (Wesby-Burrows), Daniels, Solomon (Spear), Lowe, Knights (Wilby).

Tomorrow Bungay entertain Loddon in a derby at 2.30pm.
