THE scoreline was flattery in the extreme. Loddon deserved at least a draw against the league leaders in terms of possession and territorial advantage but they failed to convert chances.

On seven minutes, a break down Cromer's right ended with a cross which Loddon failed to clear and Cromer took the lead.

Cromer dominated purely on the basis of the long ball. Loddon however, tried to play football but failed to create clear-cut chances.

A good run by Robin Andersen put brother Dan away left. His cross was met by Brown, the keeper blocked the header but nobody followed up the spilt ball.

Loddon then had a spell of pressure but could only conjure a shot from Robin Andersen. Brown, Parkin and Hancock combined and a sweet cross to the far post saw Dan Andersen slide in but unable to control his effort which went wide.

Loddon started the second half brightly, Dan Andersen crossing for Hancock and the keeper fumbling away for a corner. Hancock forced a terrific save with a diving header.

Marjoribanks headed just over and had an effort cleared off the line from offside. Loddon had a penalty claim denied. Brown slipped on shooting and fired wide. This was the story of Loddon's second half - tidy defending, good approach play but unable to finish.

On 66 minutes Cromer broke, fired in a cross and scored with a glancing header.

A Marjoribanks' effort was cleared off the line as Cromer's goal seemed charmed.

With only a few minutes left a long ball for once beat Ayre and a Cromer forward latched on and lobbed the advancing Stebbings.

An unfortunate scoreline which overshadows a good Loddon performance. Musker McIntyre MoM: Robin Andersen.

Loddon United 0, Mattishall 1

LODDON suffered another home defeat, to the Norfolk Senior Cup winners.

Loddon were denied a penalty, the referee deciding Dan Andersen was upended outside the box, not inside. Loddon were awarded a penalty when Robin Andersen was fouled but Marjoribanks saw the keeper make a great save.

Loddon then conceded a bizarre goal. Ayre tried to clear a bouncing ball but it hit Squire in the face and fell nicely for the forward to lob Howes to snatch the lead.

Matt Ayre hit a post, Robin Andersen had a point-blank header saved as Loddon pushed for an equaliser.

Loddon played some delightful one-touch football, especially down their right with Chris Andersen, Gary Summons and Hancock but again were beaten by a 'route-one' team and their own inability to score when dominating their opponents.

Musker McIntyre MoM: Matt Parkin.
