NORTON Athletic retained the Bungay Charity Cup at the Maltings Meadow, Ditching-ham on Friday evening as they beat Bungay Reserves, the 2008 winners, 2-0.
NORTON Athletic retained the Bungay Charity Cup at the Maltings Meadow, Ditching-ham on Friday evening as they beat Bungay Reserves, the 2008 winners, 2-0.
The trophy and plaques were presented to the winning team by the chairman of the charity cup committee, Jim Deacon, who also presented the Harry Webster Shield and plaques to the runners-up, and plaques to the three officials for the game.
Cup committee president Terry Reeve congratulated both teams on a game fought in the true sporting spirit of a charity competition, and also thanked the six other teams who took part for their support and co-operation.
He also thanked the Bungay and District Sports Association and Bungay Town FC for providing the facilities, with all matches this year played under the Maltings Meadow floodlights. He thanked R Charlish Ltd for sponsoring the match ball, and praised the work of Graham Mickleburgh, who had taken over as committee secretary following the death last year of Albert (Billy) Taylor.
The competition raised about �700.
