THE Beccles and District Table Tennis League, which is being sponsored by Alan Cook Accommodations and Woodton King's Head, has begun again after the festive break with the first round of the Knock-Out Cup.

The Nutters just squeezed past the Gull 537-527 by 10 points.

Starting the match 27 points adrift the Nutters had taken the advantage by game four which was helped by a 21-10, 21-10 Joe Herne win over Laura Hollyoak.

The next three games were evenly matched before Tom Herne helped the Nutters' cause with a 21-8, 21-5 win again over Hollyoak and saw them lead by 28 points.

However with two games left it was the Gull that won three of the legs but a Mario Icovazzo 21-17, 21-16 win over Richard Herne was not enough to stop a Nutters win.

All remaining teams in the league received byes.

The Nutters now have a home match in round two against Hales Eagles to be week commencing January 28. The other ties are Gnats against Ants, Hopefuls against Rejects and Magpies against King's Head.

The Beccles League now splits into two mini divisions. The Premier Division of five teams will play each other home and away once where the Division One teams will play each other three times.
