BECCLES Panthers U17 gained a surprise but deserved win against a strong Lowestoft Lions team at the Denes Oval in a Junior Carter Cup match.

Beccles were asked to bat first in a 25-over match and lost an early wicket before Jordan Barber and Glen Wright added 47 for the second wicket.

Wright was joined first by Wilson and then Mike Fisher. The partnership these two added was worth 65 with Fisher scoring 42 off 22 balls. Wright was out in the 23rd over for 47 with the final total 160 for 6 off the 25 overs which proved to be a very competitive total.

The Lions started their innings like the Panthers with the loss of a quick wicket to the Shadingfield express Mike Fisher.

The Lions looked comfortable until Buck's moon ball off-spin and Alex Wright's bowling of four overs, eight runs and two wickets caused panic with only Hebditch holding the Lion's innings together with a seven-boundary score of 36.

Buck finished with five overs for four wickets as Lowestoft fell 13 runs short, to the delight of the Panthers supporters.

Beccles Panthers U17 entertained Diss Mafia in another Junior Carter Cup match on Sunday.

Beccles were put in to bat and were on the ropes due to loose shots.

Quick runs from M Fisher looked like saving Beccles before he fell on 19.

Continuous wickets fell around the young A Wright, who was going well.

S Holmes' run-out left Beccles in more trouble but Tom Marje supported A Wright, who finished on 44 and Beccles 128 all out.

Diss started brightly but their key opener was dropped early by Bate.

Beccles bowled well throughout but in the end not enough runs gave the bowlers nothing to defend.

S Holmes and M Fisher bowled well but Diss knocked the runs off in the last over.
