At least 250 people took part in the 31st Bungay Marathon today (Sunday, April 14) whilst a further 600 completed the half marathon.
Runners were set off by Town Reeve of Bungay Richard Cundy. They enjoyed a mild and breezy day as they completed the course from The Maltings Pavilion in Bungay to Beccles and back through Gillingham, Geldeston and Ellingham.
More than 50 junior runners also took part in a fun run, which was just over a mile long.
Race director Bob Paul said: “The turn out has been great. Some come every year to our event. In fact we have got three people from Sweden, including Jonas Ericsson who won the marathon in 1985 in two hours 29 minutes.”
Among the competitors was 48-year-old Bungay Black Dog runner Ian Taylor, who completed his 100th marathon on Sunday.
Mr Taylor, of Barley Meadow in Halesworth, finished the race in three hours 49 minutes. He is thought he could be the only person in the whole of East Anglia to have joined the exclusive 100 Marathon Club.
He said: “It is a day I will remember for the rest of my life.
