THE season is coming to a successful end for Bungay Bowls Club with one team winning a league title, at least one more earning promotion and the club reaching two cup finals.

It will be a proud and busy weekend for club captain Ian Gosling as his teams appear in two cup finals on consecutive days.

A busy weekend for Bungay started with an excellent win against Loddon Swan in the semi-final of the Area A Benevolent Cup last Tuesday night. It means they will play Waveney Bowls Club in the final at Wrentham this Saturday.

It will be the second appearance in the final for Bungay who won the cup for the first and only time in 2000 when they beat Hales.

Last Saturday the club beat Sparrows Nest by 20 shots to reach the final of the Lowestoft Area Custom Kitchen Cup for the first time where they will face Waveney or Wenhaston in the final at Wenhaston on Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully, as in 2003, both teams in the Halesworth Three-Wood League will be playing in Division One next season.

With title favourites Halesworth pulling out of the league after just two matches Barbara Wortley's A team beat off strong competition from Beccles Conservatives and Lowestoft Railway to win the league with a game spare, thus bringing the title to Bungay for the first time since 2002.

In Division Two Roger Bullen's B team failed to win the league at the last game, but could still be promoted to Division One as league runners-up if the postponed games of their rivals go in Bungay's favour.

Les Knowles' Bungay A team in the Beccles League finished as Division Two champions for a second year and will hope that a league restructuring does not dash their hopes of playing in Division One next season. Ian Gosling's Benacre League team have secured promotion to the First Division after two seasons in Division Two.

Peter Rix's Men's A team fought a rearguard action to avoid relegation from Division One of the Bowls England Lowestoft Area Triples League.

A critical loss at home to Wenhaston due to a depleted team mid-season put them into the relegation position, but impressive wins against champions-elect at the time Halesworth and a strong Thurlton team meant they comfortably avoid relegation.

The club's B team captained by Jim Reid suffered from a lack of player availability and finished bottom of Division Two.

The Beccles League B team captained by

Arnold King battled hard in Division Two and can claim a win over the A team as the highlight of the season.
