IT was certainly a busy week at BASC starting with the Monosail Open on Sunday followed by three days of Open Regatta.

With a moderate breeze off the Norfolk bank, Chris Abbott made light work of the first race, forging ahead of the fleet of 14 boats to secure a win in race one.

After lunch in the clubhouse, provided by the catering team, Jon Blankley in Tardis got revenge in the lighter winds to win the second race in style leaving it all to play for.

At the same time the Waveney fleet were heading to the club on their passage race from Oulton Broad, the Waveney Challenge Cup.

Geoff Little and David Mobbs were the first in and were welcomed with much applause.

With the westerly picking up for the last race, Chris Abbott again proved that even a year's absence from club sailing was not to stop him from taking the top spot by securing the Open with another win.

Monday saw the start of Open Regatta.

With a moderate breeze holding steady from the west throughout the day, sailors in all classes were going to be flying past the spectators assembled on the clubhouse bank.

Tuesday saw much lighter conditions from the SW for the first races at 10am.

With a huge number of boats on the Waveney for the Commodores Cup combined with the Enterprises in the Metcalf Tankard, all searching for a lift in the light airs, holiday makers faced a daunting task in cruisers taking passage through the spectacle of boats. Low cloud brought showers throughout the afternoon but that didn't dampen the spirits of crews for the rest of the day especially for the last race, the Tillet Cup.

N and A Shipley were hoping to capitalise on their previous day's victory but Kevin and Jo Edwards got way out ahead of the huge pack of boats to take first place in their Enterprise, Sharkie.

Going to press stops any further reporting but all

The commodore, Richard Deller, expresses great thanks to all who have made huge efforts to make the Regatta 08 possible - from the OODs and timekeepers to the rescue boat crews and caterers, especially to those from visiting clubs who give up their time and help out with these duties.
