BECCLES returned to winning ways through goals in the first and last minutes by leading scorer Alan Remblance.

They also kept their first clean sheet for over a month and arrested a run of three successive defeats to propel themselves back up into the top three of the Anglian Combination Premier Division.

At College Meadow three weeks previously, Brandon had ruined Beccles' unbeaten home record comfortably 2-0.

Beccles were buoyed by the return of captain Sam Barham at the back following his trip to Australia, and he was joined by his old defensive partner Andy Wigg, back following the birth of his first child.

With Alex Holmes on county duty again and Neil Hurren unavailable, Beccles went with four in midfield, leaving wide player Andy Woods on the bench.

Beccles drew first blood when Remblance took advantage of indecision in the home rearguard to expertly finish and put Beccles in front.

Good passing football saw the Wherrymen take the game to Brandon and carve out several more chances, none of which were taken.

The Brandon keeper was certainly the busier of the two and he had to be very quick off his line more than once as through-balls from Waterman and Wilson in midfield breached the home defence.

The second half was much more even. Brandon threw more men forward, but the Beccles rearguard of Myhill, McMorran, Barham and Wigg held firm, and when Brandon did manage to break through, Cable in goal was always alert to the situation.

With the game concentrated in the midfield area, Beccles felt more secure and with the clock running down looked to have secured a well-earned win. With time almost up,

they doubled their margin of victory when Remblance finished off a fine three-man move.

Tomorrow, Beccles return to College Meadow for their last home fixture of the year when St Andrews come to call (2pm kick-off).

The Reserves travel to nearby Harleston (2pm).
