LAST Friday, Thurton Primary School tennis team embarked on their battle to become County School Sport Partnership Year 3/4 champions

To the school's delight the children ran back onto the field in the middle of sports day with the cup held aloft.

“Small school, big future!” James Allerton stated after winning the cup.

In area finals 120 schools took part and the top two from each area went to county finals. Sixteen teams from all over Norfolk then competed at Easton College Tennis Centre.

Thurton qualified top of their pool and then came top of the winners' pool to be crowned county champions.

“Sport is really taking off at Thurton. I've never known it like this before, and the pupils and parents think it is wonderful.

“I still can't quite believe that 'little old Thurton' are county champions!” said David Wilkinson, parent and chair of governors.

Last month the school's Year 5/6 cricket team also got to the county finals where they came 12th.

The school was thrilled as they competed against some big schools which had lots of children to choose their teams from.

Thurton only have 25 in total in Year 5/6.
