BUNGAY Cricket Club chairman Stuart Smith smashed a blistering 184 as Bungay A recorded an excellent 132-run over Cringleford Lodge in Norfolk League Division Three.

Bungay skipper Haines lost the toss and Bungay were asked to bat on a decent track with a quick outfield. Smith and Cudden opened to some tight bowling from Spinks and Critchfield, who bowled four successive maidens until Cudden succumbed to the pressure. Bedingfield soon followed and at 23-2 Bungay were in trouble.

Haines joined Smith to help rebuild, finding some runs among the change bowlers. Smith had got his eye in and a series of flashing cuts and drives brought up his half-century.

Haines played the anchor role as Smith got into his stride. His 100 was deserved, brought up with another crashing boundary. By the time Haines fell for a well crafted 61 the pair had put on 226.

Smith hit out at the end registering a serious of big sixes until finally falling in the last over. Smith struck 24 fours and four sixes, hoisting Bungay to an imposing 270-3.

Cringleford faced some tight bowling themselves with batsman Spinks providing the resistance. Flatt (3-26) and Mowday bowled some tight lines. The shrewd Haines (2-14), after bowling, turned to young leg spinner Long and the unerring veteran Hutton for more breakthroughs. Cringleford were hampered by the retirement of Spinks, killing off hopes of a close run chase. Andrew Beckles (4-13) quickly got amongst the middle order.

With Cringleford finishing on 145, Bungay finished comfortable winners and are looking in good form for tomorrow's trip to Happisburgh.
