Spectacular sailing, and spills, at Beccles
Beccles sailors again enjoyed windy conditions as series B continued at Beccles Amateur Sailing Club.
Sailing was spectacular as the wind blew strongly off the Suffolk bank resulting in thrills and plenty of spills for crews.
OOD Rory Kelsey opted for a long course incorporating a beat up to a long four, an exciting reach past the clubhouse and a jibe near the bridge.
With five novice sailors braving conditions it was Optimist helm James How taking honours on corrected time, Alfie Howart in his reefed Topper second and Lucas Phillips holding onto third. Bad luck to Jacob Woolnough whose close call with a passing cruiser and brush with the mark saw him drop back to fourth.
Jake Shipley in Laser Mr Angry was ahead after 30 minutes in the pursuit race. Mark Langstons brush with a tree in Streaker Radicle Posture allowed Richard Deller and Saskia Baylis in Enterprise Cuddles through to take second.
The two Lasers of Jake Shipley and Matt Deller dominated race four of the Coronation Cup, with Shipley now well ahead on the leader board.
The Topper fleet suffered in the gusts with only three out of the nine starters completing the course. Milo Phillips in T1 took the bell, Charlie Folkard in Charlie2 made a good recovery after a collision with a Comet to hold onto second and Elena Edwards persevered into third.

Richard Deller and Saskia Baylis in Enterprise Cuddles were never threatened from the start by Dave Elliot and Mike Thrower in Coppi in race four of the Kerrich Cup.
With Dragonfly wisely opting for a reef, three Norfolks lined up for race four of the Bacchante Trophy.
Team Salisbury in Shanderlee led from the start, Ron Haynes and Roger Campling in Dragonfly remained uncatchable by Bob Gorbould and Richard Lewis in Chuph. Shipley again managed to stay ahead of Deller in the Will Judge Trophy and a third by Langston keeps him in contention being within three points of the lead overall.
