The Norwich Sunday League side defeated CFC Bury 3-2 at Walsham-le-Willows FC on Sunday to lift the trophy for the first time.

Matthew James put Bungay ahead, but Luke Spivey levelled.

Player-manager Beales restored Bungay’s lead only for Phil Godden to equalise in the 16th minute.

James sprinted clear to slot home what proved to be the winner in the 35th minute.

Beales said: “I think we deserved to win it in the end. CFC Bury were very good going forwards, especially in the first half, and I thought they deserved to be level at half-time.

“We came into the game as underdogs to be fair, but we kept battling away and got our rewards, although it was a shame about the conditions.”

Beales, who scored Bungay’s second goal with an overhead kick, added: “I am 38 now so I don’t score many like that!

“I saw the ball dropping and thought I would try an overhead kick and it went in.”
