BUNGAY continued to have their say on the Norfolk League Division One title race as they made it three wins in a row on Saturday, beating second placed Old Buckenham A by five runs.

Despite the margin of victory, fourth-placed Bungay controlled the game from the start and without five dropped catches would have surely wrapped up maximum points.

Under blue skies, Bungay captain David Fuller won the toss and elected to bat first.

In the absence of M Watts, Fuller opened the batting with his brother Chris and the pair started brightly, bringing up 40 from the first 10 overs.

C Fuller was the first to go, skying a catch to square leg for 23. D Fuller was joined by W Lewis and the pair continued without much difficulty until F Garrod got a ball to nip back and trap Fuller lbw for 40.

At 88-2 Bungay continued to build partnerships, and on a pitch that offered little to the bowlers all the Bungay top seven batsmen contributed to the total of 216-6.

After a shower at tea, the two sides were able to continue the game and Old Buckenham openers, M Dunnett and R Bailey got off to a slow start against accurate bowling from D Fuller and W Lewis.

C Fuller was again first to initiate a breakthrough as he trapped Bailey lbw.

Garrod and Dunnett looked to up the run rate and Dunnett was dropped twice in the partnership of 53, but at 96-2 from 30 overs Bungay were still in control.

J Savage was sent in to up the run rate and together with first Dunnett, who was finally dismissed by York for 63, and then S Mann set about reining in the total.

Both batsmen used big shots combined with clever running between the wickets but still required over seven per over when C Fuller returned to the attack to bowl Savage for 43.

And when Mann was run out for 31 with 17 required from two overs, it left a lot for the lower order to do.

There was still time, however, for C Fuller to bowl J Lund and return figures of 3-42 as Old Buckenham A finished 211-6.
