THREE of the semi-finalists are now known in the Beccles and District Table Tennis League Knock Out Cup competition, which is being sponsored by Alan Cook Accommodations and Woodton King's Head.

Hales Eagles beat The Nutters 522-473.

Beginning the match 18 points behind, the experienced Eagles eventually overcame the youth (plus dad) of the Hernes.

The Eagles led after four games but then the Nutters pegged them back to keep the match evenly balanced until Tony Broadberry squashed Joe Herne 21-6, 21-9 to put the tie in favour of the Eagles. Eagles then hung on to go through.

The closest match of the round was at Woodton where Magpies beat King's Head 422-414.

Magpies began with a 90-point start, but by the time Alan Clitheroe had played his second set of games the difference was reduced to 46.

Barry Fortune then had a good 21-18, 21-15 win over Harvey Mason, but Harry Mason beat Alan Harper 21-10, 21-16. And with Clitheroe winning 21-4, 21-4 over Sharon Cheer the match was evenly poised going into the last two legs as King's Head had the advantage by one point.

Fortune took the first leg against Harvey 21-19 which meant the Magpies led by one point. However, Fortune kept his nerve by winning the second leg 21-12.

League leaders Withersdale Rejects also got through by beating Hales Hopefuls 336-302.

Starting the match 81 points behind, the Rejects took seven of the first eight legs which reduced the deficit to 29.

Jason Peck and James Skilleter shared a leg each before Rejects took control.

Simon Peck can count himself unlucky as an inspired Greg Collett won 21-12, 21-7 when the scores were 10-10 in the first leg.

The Rejects won the remaining legs to ensure their passage into the next round.

The final tie of Gnats against Ants was postponed.

In the semi-finals, Rejects await the winners of the Gnats/Ants match with Magpies playing Eagles.

The defeated teams enter the Plate competition.
