WITH South African opener Chris Hlengani scoring an unbeaten century, Hales beat Beccles by seven wickets in Alliance Division One.

Hales surprised bottom club Beccles by putting them into bat. Ruddock and Sydenham, starting slowly, the pair looking confident when Sydenham was caught by the Hales wicketkeeper C Andersen.

The arrival of Rob Porter at the crease obviously unnerved Ruddock as he was bowled shortly after, with Rich Porter joining his brother.

The pair settled into a comfortable partnership keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Rob Porter being bowled by Pearce just short of the partnership's 50.

Richard Turrell carried on where Porter left off and the two slowly added to the total.

Richard Turrell was caught for 16 then Clemence was caught by Rowe when he had made just one run.

Van Huffell had a short but prolific innings and made good use of any balls coming his way, hitting them to all parts of the boundary until he was lbw for 29.

With the scoreline on 186 Rich Porter was bowled, and the partnership of David Turrell and Mike Fisher scored another eight runs off the final two overs to take the Beccles score to 195.

Hlengani and C Andersen started the innings for Hales.

With Hlengani showing Beccles that he meant business, the opening partnership put on 67 runs before C Andersen was caught by Rich Turrell.

Squire then joined Hlengani and during his innings of 30 minutes the scoreline climbed to 128.

With D Andersen having a short innings, Jones partnered Hlengani to put on the 68 runs needed to win the match.

Hlengani was dropped with his score at 79 but went on to score 107 runs off 115 balls.

Again an improved show by Beccles, but despite changing bowlers several times they could not get Hlenganis wicket.

Beccles travel to Bradenham tomorrow and will be playing in the Lady Mary Plate on Sunday at the Hethersett and Tas Valley Cricket Club.
