BECCLES travelled to Trafford Park, Wroxham, to play a greatly enhanced Wroxham Reserves in the quarter final of the Mummery Cup.

With Wroxham's first team away FA Vase, the match in Yorkshire postponed and the Ridgeons League unable to find a fixture for their first team, Beccles had the misfortune to come up against a side barely recognisable as a reserve team.

With the pitch wet but playable the hosts kicked off and were soon 1-0 up through James Bullman. Beccles tried hard to get some moves going but the game was largely being played in the Beccles half.

It was no surprise when Daniel Boswell added a second before half-time.

Beccles started the second half in determined fashion and Alan Remblance had a half chance but the ball was cleared. The conditions by now were worsening and in driving rain the hosts put the game out of Beccles reach through Shaun Howes.

Any chance of a Beccles recovery was scuppered when Ross Durrant added a fourth, but Beccles never gave up and Jason Clarke reduced the deficit near the end, a just reward for all Beccles' hard work.

Beccles Reserves entertained Martham in monsoon conditions at College Meadow and went two goals down to the visitors at half-time. A stirring second half comeback ensued and goals from Chris Payne and a James Fens penalty secured a share of the spoils.

Tomorrow Beccles first team entertain Sprowston, 2pm. The Reserves travel to Wymondham Reserves, 1.30pm in the Morley Cup.
