HALES A: Martham captain Alex Sayer stole the show with an unbeaten century and five wickets as Hales A succumbed to a powerful display in their first Norfolk League Division Four game on the club's new pitch.
The Hales fielders were made to suffer in wintry conditions, frequently chasing leather in the face of a howling gale and driving rain as the visitors rattled up a 278-6 total led by Sayer who was unbeaten on 104 with good support from Simeon Randell (41).
Stand-in captain Jamie Weston took 2 for 34 from 12 overs.
Hales made a spirited reply with youngsters Jack Cook (27) and Tom Watts (28) playing attractive shots. Veteran Mark Ingram was a man in a hurry as he weighed in with a hard-hit 35 as Hales posted 149, Sayer doing the main damage with 5 for 37.
