In the last 16 round of the Suffolk (Bowls England) Millennium Trophy Bungay hosted Sudbury. Played on a first team to three winning rinks system, Bungay's Richard Allen narrowly lost the first match to be completed - the two wood singles.

The deficit was cancelled a short while later as Captain Roger Bullen narrowly won the four-wood singles.

Despite taking an early lead in the four-wood pairs Colin Powley and Reg Brinded soon found them selves in a very competitive match against a strong Sudbury duo.

Bungay's Dominic Belisario, Derek Hinsley and David Sheppard built a comprehensive lead over the first three quarters of their three-wood triples match that the Sudbury trio had to conceded with one end to play.

At around the same time Sudbury also had to concede the fours rink as an inspired Peter Rix, who saved 17 shots in four ends, skipped Jack Newnham, Richard Tuthill and David Feavyour to victory with one end to play.

This gave Bungay the winning three rinks so that the result of Colin's and Reg's pairs match became irrelevant.
