College Meadow played host to an all-Beccles Hospital Cup final between Town and Caxton on Saturday.

In a typical hard-fought, passionate local derby, Beccles Town ran out victorious 3-1.

The Hospital was the real winner though as the cup generated around 650, which will be donated to the Friends of Beccles Hospital fund.

Caxton started the game the better of the two sides, their work rate was far superior along with their good play which caused Town many problems.

It didn't take long for Caxton to take the lead as on 15 minutes from an in-swinging corner, Howard headed back across goal for the unmarked Riches to poke the

ball home.

Caxton were far the better side for long periods in this game with Martin and the impressive Heaney winning the midfield battle and finding Davis on the wing who was always a threat.

Just before half-time Town managed to create their first clear- cut chance as Day found him self clear in the box but he blazed his left-foot shot over the bar.

The second half continued the same as the first with Caxton's workrate frustrating Town as they were unable to break down the stubborn resistance.

On 70 minutes Town had an excellent chance to equalise. Martin won a free-kick on the left and Hurren sent in a dangerous cross onto the head of Wilson, but with the goal at his mercy, he put his header wide.

Soon after Town came close again. From another Hurren free-kick, Harmer rose and crashed his header against the bar and away to safety.

On 80 minutes, Town finally managed to break down Caxton and grabbed an equaliser.

Martin latched on to a through-ball, drew the keeper and despatched the ball into the bottom corner to seemingly send the final into penalties.

But Town had other ideas and from a well-worked free-kick routine involving Holmes Hurren and Barham, Day was left with the simplest of tap-ins to make the score 2-1.

As Caxton committed men forward to try grab a late equaliser Town grabbed a third.

Waterman sent Hurren away one on one, he rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the empty net to make the final score 3-1.
