Triathlete Ellis is best all-rounder

Norwich's Matt Ellis showed his pace to steal the show and take the 12th Waveney Triathlon held in glorious sunshine at Bungay.

Organised by the Tri-Anglia Triathlon Club, the super-sprint distance Waveney event is based at the swimming pool in Bungay and is shorter than the Olympic event, comprising of a 400m swim, 20k bike ride and 3.

Norwich's Matt Ellis showed his pace to steal the show and take the 12th Waveney Triathlon held in glorious sunshine at Bungay.

Organised by the Tri-Anglia Triathlon Club, the super-sprint distance Waveney event is based at the swimming pool in Bungay and is shorter than the Olympic event, comprising of a 400m swim, 20k bike ride and 3.2km run.

Ellis, of the Tri-Anglia club claimed victory in a time of 50min 14sec, despite not being the fastest man in any of the individual disciplines of the race.

He was a full minute ahead of Andy Walpole (51:14.)

In the ladies' race, Nicola McIvor from Belfast, studying at the University of East Anglia, took top honours in 57:45, just eight seconds ahead of Tri-Anglia's Nicki Hawkes. A total of 150 athletes took part in the triathlon.

The next event that Tri-Anglia are hosting is the Norwich Triathlon on Sunday, July 6 at Whitlingham Outdoor Centre.

In addition to the established standard distance triathlon (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run) an inaugural sprint distance triathlon is available (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run).

Ü CLIC Sargent, the UK's leading children's cancer charity, has teamed up with Fritton Lake Triathlon for this year's event at the historic Somerleyton Hall Estate next month.

It is the second year of the race, and this year as well as the standard distance race, and a super sprint race, there will be a junior aquathlon event for (400m swim and 2.5k run) for youngsters aged 12-18.

There will also be a team relay event for the standard distance allowing people of all abilities to take part and raise funds for CLIC Sargent.

This will be the second year the triathlon has been run at Fritton Lake.

The race takes place on June 8, with closing date for entries May 30.
